Welcome

Welcome to the 'on your bike to poverty' blog. Here I will be talking about all things fundraising and cycling following my successful ride from London to Paris for Christian Aid . A link to my fundraising page can be found here.

Thanks to these guys for all their help in my fundraising: Proskins, PF Collections Limited, Snowdome, Beanbagcrazy, Zootsports, Decathlon, Born Extreme and Wonderland Memorabilia.

Actitvity Report

New Memorabilia Items and Christmas Over Indulgence

After the successful auction of the Take That Gold Disc and signed Bobby Robson print, the fundraising total now stands at a very healthy £833.46.

I have kindly been given some more memorabilia from Wonderland Memorabilia that is now on ebay at fixed prices. The first is a signed montage of prints of Tony Jacklin, Europe's most successful Ryder Cup captain, available for £50+p&p.

Secondly is an unsigned U2 Joshua Tree Gold Disc for £90+p&p.

Finally an unsigned photo montage of Jack Nicklaus featuring a commemorative Scottish £5 note, available for £100+p&p.

The auctions can be found here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/chili_mini/m.html

After a bit of over indulgence during Christmas, the scales did not make for happy reading. Training has now started in earnest as I try to shed those extra pounds I put on and also get those fitness levels up for the sportives I've signed up for and of course the big one, London to Paris.

The Big Football Quiz

Do you know your football?

Would you like to win £50 of Born Extreme Vouchers? How about the chance to learn to ski or snowboard in a day courtesy of the Snowdome?

Well simply download the quiz sheet, work out the clues to the names of all 92 English league football clubs and send the form in by 31st January 2012 to be in with a chance.

Other prizes include a £25 Decathlon gift voucher and all entries regardless of score will be entered into a draw to win a Mini-B beanbag courtesy of Perfect Furniture of Nottingham.

All I ask is for a small donation with your entry, that will go to Christian Aid.

The quiz can be downloaded here. Good luck!

Ebay Auctions

After raising over £250 in my first ebay auction from items kindly donated by PF Collections Limited, I have just listed a couple of items kindly donated by Wonderland Media.

The first item is a framed signed print of Sir Bobby Robson in his playing days for West Bromwich Albion. The second is a signed montage of prints of Tony Jacklin, Europe's most successful Ryder Cup captain.

First Post

Welcome to my blog on my challenge for 2012, the Christian Aid London to Paris ride.

After retiring from football this summer I decided to get back in the saddle. I hadn't been on a race bike in nearly 20 years since my Tour de France enthused teenage years. Dusting off the old Raleigh Flyer and Greg LeMond Z Vetements jersey I started to put in some miles locally. First outing I snapped one of the old stem mounted gear levers and was already pining for a new bike! A new bike acquired, along with a whole host of jerseys, shorts, gloves, etc, etc I'm looking forward to 2012 and the challenge of the training and participation of the L2P ride.

After looking at various charity options I chatted to my mother in law who had previously raised money for Christian Aid. A brief chat to her, a look on the website at all their good work in trying to rid the world of poverty and it's causes and my mind was made up. I'm now just 5 weeks in from signing up for the L2P ride and the fundraising total stands at £623.46.

I'm always thinking of ways to raise money to reach my target of £1300. Currently I have a few pieces of memorabilia kindly donated by a neighbour in the trade and a signed Bobby Robson framed picture and a signed Tony Jacklin framed picture will soon be going on ebay for auction. My other current plan is to run a cryptic quiz. I have designed the quiz already and busy getting prizes before it goes to print. So far I have a beanbag kindly donated by PF Collections, a £25 gift voucher from Decathlon and a £50 gift voucher from Born Extreme of Hinckley. I'll let you all know when the quiz is finished and will upload it to the internet in pdf format for you to download and complete.

Some of my work sponsored kit arrived the other day. Really chuffed with it all.

I've also signed up for 3 training sportives in the last week in preparation for the L2P ride. So far my biggest ride has been 57 miles which I rode in the main with some of the guys at Heanor Clarion so these ones at 80 miles (No Excuses Sportive), 65 miles (Tour of the Peak) and 154 miles (Flatout in the Fens) respectively will be a challenge and yes you did read correctly, 154 miles!! I blame Mike Heath, he's a bad influence!

That's all for now,

Pete
