Welcome to my blog on my challenge for 2012, the Christian Aid London to Paris ride.
After retiring from football this summer I decided to get back in the saddle. I hadn't been on a race bike in nearly 20 years since my Tour de France enthused teenage years. Dusting off the old Raleigh Flyer and Greg LeMond Z Vetements jersey I started to put in some miles locally. First outing I snapped one of the old stem mounted gear levers and was already pining for a new bike! A new bike acquired, along with a whole host of jerseys, shorts, gloves, etc, etc I'm looking forward to 2012 and the challenge of the training and participation of the L2P ride.
After looking at various charity options I chatted to my mother in law who had previously raised money for Christian Aid. A brief chat to her, a look on the website at all their good work in trying to rid the world of poverty and it's causes and my mind was made up. I'm now just 5 weeks in from signing up for the L2P ride and the fundraising total stands at
£623.46.
I'm always thinking of ways to raise money to reach my target of £1300. Currently I have a few pieces of memorabilia kindly donated by a neighbour in the trade and a signed Bobby Robson framed picture and a signed Tony Jacklin framed picture will soon be going on ebay for auction. My other current plan is to run a cryptic quiz. I have designed the quiz already and busy getting prizes before it goes to print. So far I have a beanbag kindly donated by
PF Collections, a £25 gift voucher from
Decathlon and a £50 gift voucher from
Born Extreme of Hinckley. I'll let you all know when the quiz is finished and will upload it to the internet in pdf format for you to download and complete.
Some of my work sponsored kit arrived the other day. Really chuffed with it all.

I've also signed up for 3 training sportives in the last week in preparation for the L2P ride. So far my biggest ride has been 57 miles which I rode in the main with some of the guys at
Heanor Clarion so these ones at 80 miles (No Excuses Sportive), 65 miles (Tour of the Peak) and 154 miles (Flatout in the Fens) respectively will be a challenge and yes you did read correctly, 154 miles!! I blame Mike Heath, he's a bad influence!
That's all for now,
Pete
